Terraria's Massive Update - Crafting, NPCs, Seeds & Collaborations

Terraria update teaser art

Terraria's just had one of its biggest updates yet, adding many expected features with far too much to cover. It is the sort of patch that changes the rhythm of your playthrough, from early crafting and base setup to mid-game exploration and late-game combat. We won't get through a tenth of what's new here, so we'll summarise the key notes as clearly as we can. If you are returning after a break, this is a brilliant moment to start fresh and feel the impact of the new systems from the ground up.

New crafting interface and inventory improvements

One of the most significant changes for old and new players is the crafting interface. Gone are the days of wondering "what is this a material for?" and being forced to use the wiki or the Guide. On top of the crafting changes, your inventory will not be cluttered by banners or unstackable items. Banners must be manually claimed, and identical items can stack.

NPCs spawning without housing requirements

NPCs no longer require a home to spawn. As long as their conditions are met, they can appear without housing. With the required gold or health, the Merchant and Nurse will spawn, though they will disappear at night, so you still need to build houses. No more giant pillar starter houses.

Secret world seeds selection at world creation

Secret world seeds, a big part of Terraria side content, have been streamlined and are now accessible at world creation. You can select most of them, and they have added quite a few new ones. The one we're most excited for is the Skyblock seed, which borrows the classic Minecraft challenge of starting from almost nothing in the sky and building a fully functional base. We cannot wait to see how this plays out in Terraria, as in Minecraft it makes for a unique test of knowledge and skill.

Dead Cells and Palworld collaboration content

The collaborative content from Dead Cells and Palworld has finally landed, adding loads of new blocks and weapons from both games. Palworld's content mostly consists of summons, while Dead Cells brings weapons and blocks. Both collaborations add exciting new content to the game.

Background visual overhaul preview

On top of everything above, the backgrounds have been overhauled too, with most areas now looking completely different. In our opinion, it is a big improvement. If you prefer the old ones, there is an option to switch them back or remove them entirely.

We have only explained a small portion of this update, as there is much more we did not have time to cover. We recommend exploring it as if you are playing for the first time again. Grab some friends and explore the game like you have never played it before. Check out our Terraria Server Hosting plans to get started.

Our service is straightforward, and it only takes a few clicks once your server is purchased to get your server up and running. If you do not like some of the mods or settings, you have full control over changing or removing them, or even changing the modpack after purchase.
