RuneScape Dragonwilds Umbral Sands update is now available

RuneScape: Dragonwilds has just had another big update, and this one is not a tiny balance pass. Umbral Sands is here, bringing a new desert region, new bosses, new gear tiers, Steam achievements, and a fair bit for server owners to pay attention to.

The official Eye on Ashenfall 0.12.0 post has the full notes if you want the complete list. The short version is that players now have a proper new region to push into, with heat, quicksand, new vaults, the Fight Cave, and a chunk of new progression around Adamant, Yew, Red Dragonhide, Infinity Cloth, and Vestige armour sets.

The biome itself sounds like it should feel very different from the greener parts of Ashenfall. It is inspired by the deserts of mainland Gielinor, with dynamic weather, harsh sun, and environmental hazards that actually matter. Sunscorch can drain your hydration quickly if you stay exposed too long, so shade, shelter, and travelling at better times of day are part of the loop. Quicksand is in too, which is exactly the sort of thing that will catch out the person in the group who always runs ahead without looking.

The progression jump is probably the biggest bit for regular players. Adamant Ore adds a new tier of tools, weapons, shield, armour, and ammunition. Yew Wood brings the Yew Fishing Rod, Yew Shortbow, Yew Longbow, and Yew Crossbow Stock. Red Dragonhide can be turned into ranged armour, while Infinity Cloth unlocks Infinity Robes for magic users. On top of that, there are four Vestige armour sets across combat styles, including Lunar Garou and Desert Robes for magic, Kalphite Carapace for ranged, and Obsidian for melee.

The update also changes crafting stations, which is worth knowing before people jump in and panic. Jagex said crafting stations are deleted on login and need to be replaced, with components refunded. The new split is clearer: Blacksmith's Bench for tools and melee weapons, Fletching Bench for ranged gear, Mystic Forge for magic weapons and Vestiges, and Armour Bench for armour sets. That should make sense long term, but it does mean your base may need five minutes of sorting before the group starts shouting about where everything went.

RuneScape Dragonwilds Fight Cave and Nightmare Crucible

There are new bosses and enemies too, including Fuzan, Tok-Xil, Red Dragon, and the Kalphite Queen. The Fight Cave is the route to challenging Fuzan, while the Nightmare Crucible gives groups another reason to gear up properly, because boss-rush style content is where messy server groups either become organised or discover very quickly that nobody brought the right food.

The Moon Garou are part of the new questing side as well, with Icthlarin involved and rewards tied into the new region. There is also a Magic Carpet mount, extra Terrorbird and Magic Carpet customisation, three new vaults, new Kharidian building pieces, traders across Ashenfall, and Steam achievements. It is not just a new patch with a few items scattered around. It is a proper area update with systems wrapped around it.

Mining and Woodcutting now have progression from 50 to 99 too. Mining gets Divine Rock, Ore and Stone Storage, Ultimate Burst, Accelerated Veins, and lighter ingots. Woodcutting gets Trunk Totem, Lumber Storage, wood weight reduction, a Lumber Backpack, and a stronger Axtral Projection. That matters because the update is not only about killing new things. It gives gatherers and builders a reason to log in as well.

Since launch, Jagex has already pushed several 0.12 hotfixes as well. Some of those directly mention dedicated servers, including fixes around crashes and server restart requirements. If you run a Dragonwilds server, it is worth restarting when updates land, making sure the server and clients match, and keeping backups before bigger sessions.

There is also a 0.12.1 preview out now, covering combat changes like stamina, parrying, dodging, animation cancels, weapon switching, rune and arrow cycling, and better fall damage handling. That is not live in the same way as Umbral Sands yet, but it is worth watching because combat feel has been one of the bigger talking points since release.

Our RuneScape: Dragonwilds Server Hosting is ready for Umbral Sands, with persistent worlds, backups, file access, and support if your group needs help after an update. If you have been waiting for a reason to bring people back into Ashenfall, this is probably it.
