7 Days to Die v3.0 Experimental is live, and Dead Hot Summer is a big one if you run a server. It is not just a couple of balance tweaks. This update gives you a lot more control over how your world plays, how harsh it feels, and what sort of experience your group is actually going to have.

As always with experimental builds, do the boring bit first. Back up your save, check your mods, test the branch, and then decide if it is ready for everyone else. It is much better to spend ten minutes testing than to move a busy server over and then have everyone stuck waiting while you fix it. The main thing here is the sandbox changes. V3.0 adds a large set of options and presets, so you can set the server up around how your players actually like to play. Some groups want a slightly easier builder world where people can jump in after work. Others want harsher deaths, tighter loot, rougher nights, and less hand-holding.

That is the sort of thing that really matters on a long-running 7D2D server. It is not just about adding one new zombie or one new weapon. It is about making the whole world feel right for the people playing on it.

If your group wants to properly see the new POIs and world changes, a fresh world is probably the best way to do it. You can test an existing save if people are attached to it, but old chunks are still old chunks. Nobody wants to spend launch night flying around wondering why the new stuff is not appearing.

There are also more POIs, better signage, menu changes, and a customisable crosshair system. None of that is the sort of thing you sell the whole update on, but it does make the game feel cleaner when you are playing for hours at a time.

7 Days to Die city looting and POI exploration

Item Magnitude should make loot feel a bit more worthwhile too. Weapons, tools, workstation mods, and other gear can roll better stats, so finding something good should feel more useful instead of just becoming another thing you scrap five minutes later.

The Combine Station and repair options are also worth looking at if you run longer seasons. You can decide how forgiving gear progression should be, how much repairs should matter, and how much punishment players get for burning through their kit. There is a new M60 turret as well, which will probably be loved right up until the first time it ruins someone else's horde night plan.

To try v3.0 Experimental on Steam, go to Game Versions & Betas and pick latest_experimental. Your client and server need to be on the same branch, otherwise people will not connect properly. If you are running mods or an overhaul pack, check compatibility before assuming it will all be fine.
