What is The Forest?
The Forest starts with a plane crash and a missing child, then leaves your group on an island that feels quiet for about as long as it takes to realise you are not alone. You are cutting trees, making fire, building shelter and trying to get through the first nights while the cannibals watch from the edge of the light.
What makes it work is the way survival and horror sit on top of each other. A small camp can turn into a proper base with walls, traps, storage, gardens and defensive routes, but every bit of progress makes the island feel more lived in and more exposed. You can play carefully, build peacefully for a while or push straight into the dangerous parts of the map if someone in the group has no sense of self-preservation.
The caves are a big part of the game rather than just somewhere to collect loot. They are dark, awkward, full of worse things than the forest above, and often where the better tools and story pieces are hidden. A group usually ends up preparing for cave runs the same way it prepares for a boss fight in other games.
